Access denied to project sites and business intelligence centre

Hi,

When i try to access a project site for any of our projects i get 'Error: Access denied'

I get the same error when trying to access the sites as a user or as the farm admin account.

Looking in the ULS logs i can see the following error:

PortalSiteMapProvider was unable to fetch children for node
 at URL: /PWATest/syspro test 8, message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object., stack trace:
 at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation.PortalWebSiteMapNode.PopulateNavigationChildrenInner(NodeTypes includedTypes)
 at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation.PortalWebSiteMapNode.PopulateNavigationChildren(NodeTypes includedTypes)
 at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation.PortalSiteMapNode.GetNavigationChildren(NodeTypes includedTypes, NodeTypes includedHiddenTypes, Boolean trimmingEnabled, OrderingMethod ordering, AutomaticSortingMethod method, Boolean ascending, Int32 lcid)
 at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation.PortalSiteMapNode.GetNavigationChildren(NodeTypes includedTypes, NodeTypes includedHiddenTypes, OrderingMethod ordering, AutomaticSortingMethod method, Boolean ascending, Int32 lcid)
 at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation.PortalSiteMapNode.GetNavigationChildren(NodeTypes includedHiddenTypes)
 at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation.PortalSiteMapProvider.GetChildNodes(PortalSiteMapNode node, NodeTypes includedHiddenTypes)

We are using the standard project site template to create the sites and they used to work. I'm not exactly sure when the issue started or what has changed to cause this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Activate user solution in all subsites within a site collection

$

I am really struggling here, I have deployed a custom workflow solution adn deployed it to my root PWA site, now I need to go through each site and activate the feature under Site Settings > Site Actions > Manage Site features. Obviously I dont want to do this manually as I have over 50 sites, bring on powershell!

For site collection features I can easily do this but how do I do it in this instance as the feature is activated locallly to each subsite?

This is what I have so far but it appears I am using the wrong method of activating the user solution as I receive an error:

$rootsite = "http://mysite.co.co.uk/PWA"
$webs = $rootsite | Get-SPweb -limit all
foreach ($site in $webs)
	{
	write-host "Web URL = " $site.URL -foregroundcolor "blue"
	enable-SPFeature -Identity "CRRefGen.wsp" -url $web
	}

Should I be using something like, the below? I cant get either to work?

Install-SPUserSolution -URL $web

EPM and TFS User Display Name Issue

$

I am having issues publishing activities into both EPM & TFS for few of the activities with resource with Middle Name.
This is due to few of the resource-names in EPM and TFS are not matching.

Example if user name is   John(First Name) Johnson(Last Name)
In EPM this user display name is Johnson; John
In TFS this user display name is Johnson; John
In Active Directory user name is Johnson, John
For this user we do not face any issue

BUT

If the user name is John(First Name) J(Middle Name) Johnson(Last Name)
In EPM this user display name is Johnson; John; L.
In TFS this user display name is Johnson; John; L
In Active Directory user name is Johnson, John L
For this user we are facing issue.

We have observer because of full-stop at end for user with middle name, Because of this issue, if same MPP is used as client for TFS and EPM, duplicate resources are getting created.

Can any one explain why "." is getting updated for name with middle name in EPM but not TFS.

Mahesh

Reusing an old domain account with a new user

$

Here is my scenario:  an old employee Joe S. leaves the company so we deactivate his user profile in Project Server 2010.  His domain account was "domain\joe" but was deleted when he left.  We have a new employee Joe P. who just started and now he is using the "domain\joe" account which was recreated for him to use.

I am unable to create a Project Server user profile for Joe P. because Joe S. is still in the system albeit in an inactive state (we need to keep Joe S. in the system for recordkeeping purposes so we cannot delete him as a resource in Project Server).  I know we can resolve this issue by using a different domain account for Joe P. (say "domain\joep") but I have been asked to see if we can avoid doing this since Joe P. has already be on the job for a few days.

So, my question is: is there a way to de-associate Joe S. from the "domain\joe" account so we can use this again for the new employee?  I've tried a few things but nothing seems to work.  If this can't be done I'll ask the IT guy to change the new employee's account name.

Task Updates Preview page does not show any preview

Hi,
  We are using Project Server 2007. Recently I've noticed an issue Project Managers were facing. On the Task updates approval page for project managers, we can see the tasks that have been submitted by resources. However when clicked on Preview button Approval Preview page shows no recordat all, without any error message. We are able to approve\reject the task though. Am I missing any permissions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi guys,

I'm trying to access Enterprise Project Types (under Server Settings -> Workflow and Project Detail Pages) but all I get is an error.

An unhandled exception occurred in
Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.BusinessLayer.Workflow.WorkflowReadEptForGridJson.

Any ideas? I'm a total newbie when it comes to Project Server so I have no idea as to where even start...

P10 Server - Clear Department Field from custom field

$

We are using Project Server 2010 and the "Department" field. I have a custom field that was originally for one group but now will be organization-wide.  I am going into the custom field and am trying to just remove the value in "department" for that custom field so that it is available for all the schedules.  I saw a thread from a 2011 post about this but the main solution of "delete the field" wouldn't seem practical since this field is in use and has values and has reports against it already.  All I am trying to do is make it more widespread.

How can I delete/remove the value in the custom field, department option, so it is blank and available to everybody?

Thanks.

Unexpected error on Tasks page

Hi,

I ran just into the issue of "Unexpected Error" on Tasks page for one user. My normal ways of resolving this issue do not work. Booking Type is set to Proposed for this user in all projects. So no tasks are supposed to be displayed. Normally, this helps to identify assignment, which is causing trouble. Not this time.

I have also checked if there are inconsistancies in published DB with following query:
SELECT MSP_PROJECTS.PROJ_NAME
     , MSP_ASSIGNMENTS_SAVED.TASK_NAME
     , MSP_RESOURCES.RES_NAME
     , MSP_ASSIGNMENTS_SAVED.ASSN_UID
     , MSP_ASSIGNMENTS_SAVED.PROJ_UID
     , MSP_ASSIGNMENTS_SAVED.TASK_UID
     , MSP_ASSIGNMENTS_SAVED.RES_UID
     FROM MSP_ASSIGNMENTS_SAVED INNER JOIN MSP_PROJECTS
     ON MSP_ASSIGNMENTS_SAVED.PROJ_UID = MSP_PROJECTS.PROJ_UID INNER JOIN
     MSP_RESOURCES ON MSP_ASSIGNMENTS_SAVED.RES_UID = MSP_RESOURCES.RES_UID
     WHERE (NOT EXISTS(SELECT TASK_UID
     FROM MSP_TASKS_SAVED
     WHERE (TASK_UID = MSP_ASSIGNMENTS_SAVED.TASK_UID))

But no result, this should be fine.

No errors in ULS, which could lead me to the root cause.

Does anyone have an idea, what else I could check? It seems, that view settings of user got corrupted in some way.

Any idea welcome!

Thanks in advance
Barbara

PWA won't open Project Professional 2010

$

Hi,

I have a client with the following problem. They have a Project Server 2010 environment and they are in the process of going from Windows XP to Windows 7. Before they go over to Windows 7 they tested Project Professional 2010 and the connection to Project Server 2010. On Windows XP everything works fine but now on the test machine with Windows 7 and Project Professional 2010 all functionality works except opening a Project from the PWA in Project Professional. When you click on edit Project in Project Professional PWA just does nothing.

When you got to Project Professional 2010 itself you can connect and open/edit and publish projects.

I have looked at the logs and event viewer logs of all the machines but nothing comes up.

Does anyone have a idea why PWA refuses to open Project Professional?

With Kind Regards,<o:p></o:p>

Install of Windows Sharepoint Server SP3 for Project 2007 server failing at step 8 of 9

I'm at my wits end, if anyone has any clue I'd appreciate it.

The installation part has completed, but the Configuration Wizard if failing at Step 8 of 9.

Looking in the Log file I'm frankly a bit lost, there is a B2B Timer Job Fail and all sorts of other information such as

"Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.PostSetupConfigurationTaskException" thrown

I've rebooted the system, re-ran the config wizard, re-installed all to no avail.

Any help wou;d be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite P755 with Windows 7, my computer will not boot up, i'm getting a error code  0xc0000001 and it says windows failed to load , i have corrupt or missing registry files. I never got a Windows Installation Disk, i found out i'm suppose to make one, did not do it. I also have a Gateway model# NV53A with Windows 7 Ultimate running on it. Can i make a Recovery or Restore CD or a USB Jump Drive for my Toshiba w/Windows 7 Home Premium,  using my Gateway w/ Windows 7 Ultimate?

GeneralObjectAlreadyExists error when saving a Timesheet

We have one user (of about 300) who is having an issue when trying to create/submit their timesheet.  The user enters the hours worked for last week and clicks "Save and Validate".  After a few moments, the user gets an email that the TimesheetUpdate job failed.  I checked the Queue Manager and here is the error I see:

Error summary/areas:

Timesheet line already exists

GeneralObjectAlreadyExists

Queue

GeneralQueueJobFailed

Error details:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>

<errinfo>

 <general>

 <class name="Timesheet line already exists">

  <error id="20008" name="GeneralObjectAlreadyExists" uid="a02c0635-f080-458c-ae0f-d46878ae7062" objectUID="bf357fdf-502a-461d-9996-ef835e56f220" />

 </class>

 <class name="Queue">

 </class>

 </general>

</errinfo>
I cancelled the job in the queue and had the user delete the timesheet and retry, but still the same error.  The user is only adding one line to her timesheet and it is the same project/task that they use each week.  Any ideas?

New Timesheet Approvals issue after June 2014 CU - ReadStatusApprovalsForProjectForGridJson2

Hi

Bit of background, we were experiencing the following issue before applying the June CU - See TechNet question titled for more information - "Errors with timesheet approvals after unpublishing or deleting tasks"

The issue prevented a user to view timesheet approvals.

Now after the update there is a similar issue when a user is trying to get to the approvals page, see below errors.

Has anyone else experienced this and can you make any recommendations?

Thank you
